The Drake family have been providing an optician service in Penarth for 60 years. The business was started when Ossie Drake set up his practice at 107 Glebe Street, Penarth in 1958 – called Osmond I Drake Opticians. Ossie’s wife Kay worked alongside him as the receptionist.

Their son, Tim, joined the family business in 1976 as a qualified Dispensing Optician, assisting his father until Ossie retired in 1979. Tim was assisted by a number of qualified Optometrists including Lynn Gandy and Caroline Djiallis, who continued to work at the practice until 2009 and 2010 respectively.

Tim was also joined in 1995 by his eldest son Marc, who decided to follow the now well-trodden footsteps into the family business, having successfully graduated from Manchester University as a qualified Optometrist.

Tim and Marc were joined in the business by Marc’s wife Alison, a qualified Dispensing Optician, in 1997.

Tim retired in 2003, leaving Marc and Alison to develop the business. Marc and Alison still run the business today with an excellent team behind them.

Marc, Alison and their staff are committed to providing a quality service at affordable prices to Penarth and the surrounding area and are grateful to their customers for their continued loyalty.

We will be holding various offers throughout the year as well as some other surprises. Keep an eye on our social media accounts to find out what will be happening.
