There are several different kinds of Dry Eye. This is why it’s important to have regular checks with your Optometrist, so that they can find out what is causing your Dry Eye and they can help you create a Dry Eye Treatment Plan that is tailored to your needs.

Below are some of the causes of Dry Eye.

Blepharitis

Blepharitis causes small, dandruff-like deposits to appear at the base of your eyelashes. Your eyelids can also become red, swollen and irritated around the lash follicles.

Meibomian Gland Dysfunction

This happens when the glands along the rim of your eyelid become blocked. These glands produce the oily, or lipid, layer of the tears. If the lipid layer isn’t being produced properly, the tear film will destabilise and evaporate, drying the eyes.

Aqueous Deficient Dry Eye

This happens when not enough tears are made, leaving the eyes dry.
